Betty Boop and Grampy - 1935
Betty Boop series - Fleischer Studios, Inc.
Run time: 7:05
This is the first film appearance of Grampy – that nutty, loveable inventor of Rube Goldberg-like mechanisms designed to make life easier!
No one knows for sure, but it is possible that this zany character was modeled after Max Fleischer himself. Known primarily as an animator, Max was also – and essentially – an inventor. He held numerous innovative patents, not only on the processes he used to bring films to the screen (such as the Rotoscope and Rear Screen projection) but on other Grampy-like inventions such as a “Never-Wind” clock.
