The Voice of Popeye Speaks!

5/17/2014

Listen to this amazing audio interview recently posted on Cartoon Research. In it, animator and animation historian Micheal Sporn interviews Jack Mercer, the voice of Popeye.

The recording was posted as a tribute to Sporn, who recently passed away and whose insights, recollections and collections of animation art were featured on his Splog. Over the years the Splog featured material you couldn’t find any other way, from animators' drafts to whole sequences of drawings to pencil tests, many from his personal collection. The Splog is a tribute to so many beautiful pieces of work, set in their proper historical context by someone who truly loved animation.

Many thanks to Steve Stanchfield of Thunderbean Animation, an animator, educator and film historian, who posted this marvelous interview!

Love Betty Boop? Love cake? Then check out this fantastic Betty Boop Cake Board on Pinterest that was started by Jeni Mahoney, Max Fleischer's great-granddaughter. "They just all felt so playful and fun!" says Jeni. "And they're also just really impressive." Jeni thought it would be fun to gather them as inspiration for anyone looking for great cake ideas... and we couldn't agree more. What a great way to celebrate!

If you have a great Betty Boop cake picture, send it our way and Jeni will put it up on the Board!
