New York City area friends aren't going to want to miss this amazing celebration coming to the Brooklyn Historical Society on July 25th!

The event will feature rare and classic films by the many pioneers of animation that got their start in Brooklyn, including Max Fleischer who created the very first rotoscoped animated film in his Brooklyn living room The evening will also include a discussion moderated by archivist David Kay.

Long before Pixar, The Simpsons, WB Looney Tunes, and Walt Disney became synonymous with cartoons, American animation was born and bred in Brooklyn. Join animators John Canemaker and Jennifer Oxley, collector Tommy Stathes, and archivist David Kay for a panel exploring the past, present, and future of Brooklyn animation, featuring clips from Winsor McCay (Gertie the Dinosaur), Fleischer Studios (Ko-Ko the Clown, Betty Boop), 100 Chickens -- formerly known as 9 Ate 7 Productions (PEG + CAT), and more.

Betty fans, check this out: the unmistakable visage of our own Betty Boop is appearing throughout Japan in an exciting campaign for J-esthetic salons.

The highlight of the campaign is a Betty Boop J-esthetic commercial running hourly, each day, from 9 AM to midnight on a massive 16 x 28-foot monitor on the outside of the famous Shibuya 109 building in Tokyo.

The salons are operated by Foulbi Co. Ltd., which operates 100+ esthetic salons and day spas throughout Japan.

The entire promotion, including the commercial, is scheduled to run through October... but may well be extended.

The J-esthetics media campaing also includes print and digital ads, posters in transit stations, on subway and trains, print ads, electronic billboards and contests.
